PAGE, AZ – August XX, 2007 -- Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas, an ARAMARK managed property, will be hosting a complete Sustainable Cuisine Weekend, September 7 – 9, 2007, at the Lake Powell Resort located within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, to showcase the company’s unique culinary approach to using the highest quality of foods that sustain the environment. The event will also include a variety of unique tours and activities offered at the resort.
“We are committed to increasing the use of organic, heirloom fruits and vegetables grown locally whenever possible, as well as eliminating the use of trans-fats and incorporating dairy products that are free of added bovine growth hormones,” said Cathy McKeever, director of sales and marketing, Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. “This event is a new and educational way to showcase our continued commitment to the environment and healthy living.”
Highlights of the weekend include a luncheon cooking class with Executive Chef Brandon Shubert on Saturday, September 8, at 12:30 p.m. and a special menu Canyon Princess Dinner Cruise from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., including a four-course sustainable cuisine meal with wine pairings selected by Shubert and Director of Food and Beverage, Andrew Shaub-Falls.
The four course menu will feature chilled, local melon and mint soup with fresh lime cream; organic tossed green salad with julienne vegetables, roasted heirloom corn and prickly pear vinaigrette; a choice of cinnamon and chili rubbed filet of natural beef with roasted organic baby vegetables and truffle mashed potatoes with an Arizona Cabernet reduction, or fresh herb crusted wild caught halibut with basmati rice, fresh organic vegetables and a tangy citrus glaze; and an organic apple crisp with cinnamon custard and candied pine nuts for dessert.
Tickets for the luncheon cooking class are $20 plus tax for adults and children ages 3-12 on a space available basis. Tickets for the special menu Canyon Princess Dinner Cruise are $90 plus tax for adults and $61for children ages 3-12 on a space available basis. There are 40 seats available on the Sustainable Cuisine Canyon Princess Dinner Cruise, and first choice will be given to those who purchase the lodging package. Children 2 and under are free for both events.
Guests who would like to indulge in the entire weekend of sustainable cuisine and activities can take advantage of a special lodging package at the Lake Powell Resort. For only $550 per couple, the Sustainable Cuisine Weekend Package offers guests a 36 percent savings and includes the following:
